Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal

Viruses and spyware can cause all kinds of performance problems for computers. Is your desktop running slowly? Have a laptop constantly plagued by error messages? What about friends complaining about emails they received from you which you never sent? These are all symptoms of viruses and spyware and could indicate your computer has “caught” one or more of either. The sooner they’re removed, the greater the likelihood you’ll avoid permanent damage to your files or even data loss. It’s a tricky process but fortunately, we’re experts! We will:

1. Remove all viruses, spyware and rootkits

All malicious viruses, spyware and rootkits on your computer will be completely removed using specialist tools and software.

2. Repair any operating system issues caused by the virus

Viruses and spyware often create issues with a computer’s operating system like difficulties in turning a computer on or even a dreaded blue screen. These will be repaired to prevent ongoing problems.

3. Perform critical operating system updates

An infected computer sometimes won’t properly download and install critical operating system updates as it usually would. Your technician will perform any necessary updates that it’s missed out on.

4. Test operating system for proper functionality

Your operating system will then be thoroughly tested to guarantee proper functionality.

5. Install or update internet security software

It’s most likely that your computer “caught” its virus online or from an email attachment. The best safeguard against this in the future is up to date internet security software. We will check to see if you have internet security software already installed; if you do we’ll update it and make sure it’s working properly and if you don’t we’ll install it for you.

Mobile Device Setup

There are all kinds of mobile devices that can be connected to your computer. Do you own a smartphone or tablet? How about an mp3 player like an iPod? Call us out to get all of these gadgets and more setup and syncing correctly with your desktop or laptop computer. To ensure this is done properly, we will:

1. Setup your mobile device

If you have a new mobile device, our Geek will work with you through the set up process. You could want to be able to do any number of things on it: send and receive emails, download and play music and movies, read E-books or perhaps share digital photos. We can help with all of these requests and almost any others you may have.

2. Sync your mobile device with your computer

After setup, the next step is to sync your mobile device with your desktop or laptop computer. This just means that whatever you do on your mobile device will be reflected on your computer and vice versa: if you were to take a photo on your smartphone, it would then show up on your computer too. Similarly, if you downloaded a song on your computer, it would automatically transfer to your mobile device the next time you connected the two.

3. Show you how to use the device

Finally, we will show you how to use your mobile device in order to get the most out of it. Perhaps you’re not aware of all the great features that are available on it – we’ll explain what they are, how they might help you in your everyday life and how to use them. Alternatively, maybe you’ve researched things and know exactly what features you plan to use but don’t know how to use them. Don’t stress, we’ll show you how

Printers

With printers having become more and more capable over the last few years, they’ve also become more complicated to setup and learn how to get the most out of. Many are now able to print directly from your digital camera whilst those with scanners can send scanned documents directly to your email address.

If you need help setting up your printer or learning how to use it, give us a call and we’ll send your local tech out!

And of course if you don’t have a printer, we can supply one! and help with:

1. Printer setup

If your printer is WiFi capable, we’ll add it to your wireless network so that you can print to it from your computer as well as any of the other devices that you own. If it’s not or you don’t have a wireless network, we can help set one up or just connect your printer directly to your computer so that you can print from that.

2. Printing from smartphones & tablets

Printing from smartphones and tablets (like iPads) can be a bit trickier than what you may be used to printing from your computer.

If you’re having trouble, have us out. We’ll make sure that your printer is compatible with your personal devices, make sure that it’s setup to print properly from them and then show you how.

3. Troubleshooting

We can help if you’re having problems printing. It could by any number of things causing the problem. Don’t give up on the printer just yet! Let us come out to you to do some troubleshooting and check whether it may be a network issue causing the problem.

Email Setup

It’s hard to get by in this day and age without using email. Have us out to set up an account for you, with either a new or existing email address, and show you how to take full advantage of all its great features.

1. Setup a new or existing email account

A new or existing email account will be setup for you using your choice of client (‘geek speak’ for the program or online service you use to send and receive emails). The pros and cons of different email clients can be discussed in depth onsite.

2. Configure multiple email accounts

If more than one email account is needed in the household, multiple accounts can be setup and configured on a variety of clients. (For example, one person might want to use Microsoft’s Outlook to send and receive emails whilst another might prefer Google’s Gmail.)

3. Setup archive of old emails

Most email clients need to archive emails that accumulate over time in some way. By setting up the most sensible and efficient method for this to occur, your email client will continue to be as fast and as stable as it was on the day you installed it!

4. Optimise email client for best performance

To optimise the performance of your particular email client, we do things like setup appropriate folder structures (in Outlook) or ‘labels’ (in Gmail) and ensure that your client’s settings automatically clear your spam and junk folders on a regular basis. Training in the various great features offered by different email clients is also undertaken.

Computer and Network Security

With all of the personal information stored on computers today, there’s nothing more important than making sure they’re secure. Protect your financial records, photos, personal emails and other private data from identity thieves by letting us secure your computer for you. We will make sure your systems are locked-down and safe from unauthorised access. What will we do? Here are just a few of the more obvious items:

1. Set up a unique network name

We will set up a unique network name of your choosing so that you can easily identify yours from others in the surrounding area.

2. Enable wireless encryption

Using a WPA2 security key (‘tech speak’ for the highest level of encryption available for your router), your personal information will be protected from online theft and your internet connection secured against use by others.

3. Change the default administrator user name and password

All new routers come with a default, factory-set administrator username and password. This makes them relatively insecure and vulnerable to being hacked, potentially putting any personal information stored on your network at risk. Your router’s default username and password will both be updated to ones of your choosing.

1. New tablet setup & training

Our tech will help you setup your new tablet and show you how to get the most out of it. There’s so much you can use it for: to send and receive emails, download and play music and movies, download and read eBooks, view and share photos with family and friends, keep an online calendar that will sync across other devices like your smartphone and/or your computer, etc.

Setting up your devices so that each syncs with the other is great because it means that you can access the same things on every device. Have you downloaded a song on your tablet but want to listen to it on your computer? No worries, it’ll be there! Did you put an appointment in your calendar using your smartphone? It’ll appear in your calendar on your computer too!

2. App suggestions

‘App’ is a term used to describe software applications that can be installed on your smartphone or tablet. There truly is one for almost anything these days. You may want us to help you install an app for a video streaming service like Netflix, Stan or Presto so that you can watch TV shows and movies on your iPad. Are you a Foxtel subscriber? Get us to setup the Foxtel Go app on your iPad or other tablet so that you can watch your favourite shows when you’re on the road!

Tablet apps can help you stay organised and be more productive too. You can do banking online using any of the major Australian banks’ apps. Having Dropbox installed on your tablet means that you’ll be able access any important files you’ve stored in that folder on your computer from your tablet, no matter where in the world you are!
